Captured Memories

The Captured Memories Room houses thousands of audio-visual items. Most items are photographs, but you will also find:

  • Glass slides

  • Negatives

  • Postcards

  • Prints

  • Digitized files

Dearly Departed Room

The Dearly Departed Room can help you with genealogical research. It houses

  • Obituaries

  • Cemeteries records and readings

  • Mound Cemetery by Mike Ryan

    • Digitized map of Mound Cemetery showing the location and the identity of every known burial​

    • Digital images of headstones

Family Room

The Family Room is also arranged to help genealogical and historical research. The Room includes 

  • Donated family histories and linage

  • Census Records

Hanging Files Hallway

Six file cabinets in this hallway are dedicated to individual surnames. Thousands of family names have anywhere to a single page to dozens of pages of information.

Family names with more information are in the Family Room.

Three file cabinets hold subject area files. Major categories include

  • Marietta

  • Townships

  • Miscellaneous topics

Military Room

The Military Room is dedicated to the service men and women from Washington County who served in the armed forces of Ohio and the United States. There are photographs, service records, medals, uniform, letters, and books

  • The American Revolution

  • Indian Wars in Ohio

  • War of 1812

  • Civil War

  • Spanish-American War

  • World War I

  • World War II

  • Korean War

  • Vietnam War

Tallow Light Hallway

The Tallow Light Hallway is named after the Washington County Historical Society quarterly journal which has been published for over 55 years. The journal is included with membership in the society and may be purchased by the general public. See the Tallow Lights page

The hallway also includes
