Anchorage Renovation Projects

The Knox Room
The most recent phase of renovation at the Anchorage began in 2018 with the restoration of the Knox Room. The accompanying images illustrate the space before renovation and its condition following completion of the work. This project was initiated to provide Hidden Marietta Tour Company with an office and storefront, as they sought to rent space within the Anchorage to support their guided tour operations. Andrew Goodnite led the renovation effort, overseeing the replacement of a severely deteriorated floor and subfloor, the refinishing of historic woodwork, repairs to the plaster ceiling and walls, and the application of a fresh, historically appropriate coat of paint. Since the completion of this renovation, Hidden Marietta has successfully used the Knox Room as their retail and operational base.

Knox Room before renovations, it was a storage area. The floors were rotten, the walls and ceiling plaster was deteriorated, and the wood work was in need of refinishing.

Knox Room after renovations, now the Hidden Marietta shop. New floor joists, sub-floor and solid oak flooring. Plaster repaired and painted. Wood work repaired and refinished. Fireplace opened up and repaired.

The next phase of the kitchen project occurred in 2022-2023, during this phase we rebuilt the fireplace that was removed during the nursing home period, we also repaired the plaster walls and ceiling and painted the kitchen a light yellow.
